ePaper and Flexible Thin Film Transfer

Just had a great oppoprtunity to chat with my co-panelist here at the Pub Exec conference, Peter Meiers. Peter is Director of Alternative Media with Time, Inc. We got to talking about the impact that we feel technologies like ePaper and TFT will have on publishing. He and I both agree that once fully developed, these technologies will seriously begin to repace paper as a medium. They are high resolution, viewable in direct sunlight, and basically have the same visual properties of real paper. What does this mean to you right now? Personally, I believe that the technology is still 5-10 years away from...

Day 1 of the Publishing Executive Conference

I’m here in New York at the Publishing Exeutive conference. I’ll be speaking later today, but am writing a couple posts live from the show on my BlackBerry during the sessions. Right now I’m in the opening session listening to Jeff Cole from the USC Annenberg School (Center for the Digital Future), giving some insight on people’s use of the Internet. My wife and I just finished building a new house about 10 miles away from our old home with fantastic views of the Rockies. We’ve been planning this for almost three years and it’s hard to believe it’s finally done. I took last week off from work to pack the house, move, and unpack. We love the new place, but if I never see another box again in my life, it will be too soon! During the entire week I went without broadband access to the Internet and didn’t use my laptop or desktop computer at all. To my surprise, I didn’t really miss them all that much....

When Did I Move to Minnesota?

No offence to anyone from the upper mid-west, but I’m tired of the cold and snow. Please take it back! It’s 5 below this morning here in beautiful Loveland, Colorado and the water main to my neighborhood broke. No, I wasn’t able to take a shower and, yes, I now have to wear my Marianna Butte Golf Course cap to work this morning. This is the first time I can ever remember there being snow on the ground here in the Front Range area for seven weeks straight. I live here in Colorado specifically because I love the mountains and the weather. Yes, we do get an occasional snow of a...

New Year’s Resolutions and Predictions for 2007

It’s been a really busy Fall with the recent sale of Penton. I have no doubt that 2007 will prove to be a very exciting year … and probably just as busy. But I’m taking advantage of this time between Christmas and New Year’s to reflect a bit and lay out my list of Seven New Year’s Resolutions for 2007. Update my blog regularly … no, really … this time I mean it! Lose that extra 20 pounds I’ve been meaning to for a couple years Not use the word “monetize” in a sentence ever again Make the move to HDTV (finally) when we move into our new...
